Module 3 of 10

Writing a Job Post That Gets Applications

Most job posts for home service roles fail before anyone reads them. The title is vague, the pay is hidden, and the requirements list looks like it was copied from a corporate HR template.

Here is what actually works.

The 5 things every trade job post needs

  • Pay range (put it in the title if you can)
  • Schedule and hours (how many per week, nights/weekends?)
  • Exact location or service area
  • 1-2 real benefits (not a laundry list)
  • A fast hiring promise ("We move fast. You could start this week.")

Job titles that get clicks

Specific beats generic every time. "HVAC Service Tech - $28-$36/hr - Bellingham WA" outperforms "HVAC Technician" by a wide margin. Candidates search by trade, location, and sometimes wage. Put those in the title.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Hiding the pay range (candidates skip posts with no pay listed 60% of the time)
  • Requirements lists longer than 8 items (you are screening yourself out of candidates)
  • Using corporate language in a trades context ("dynamic team environment")
  • No phone number or fast contact option
  • No urgency (add "we are interviewing this week" or similar)
