How many applicants does a cleaning job post get? Real 2026 numbers
Updated September 2026. Prices and claims checked against live sources at that date.
Search for how many applicants a cleaning job post should get and you will find guesses. Here are measured numbers instead. Qualified Hires runs hiring for cleaning companies, so we pulled the live data from our own platform: every applicant to every active cleaning job post over the 90 days ending September 12, 2026. That is 862 applicants across 16 cleaning job posts at real residential and commercial cleaning companies.
Use these as a benchmark, not a promise. Markets, pay, and post quality move the numbers a lot, which is half the story below.
The numbers
The average is nearly double the median because a few posts pull enormous volume: the top quarter of posts drew 70 or more applicants in 90 days while the bottom quarter drew 15 or fewer. If you have only ever run one job post, you have no way to know which end of that spread you are on. Most owners assume their number is normal. Half of them are wrong.
| Metric | Value (90 days ending Sept 12, 2026) |
|---|---|
| Job posts measured | 16 active cleaning job posts |
| Total applicants | 862 |
| Median applicants per post | About 28 |
| Average applicants per post | About 54 |
| Slowest post | 8 applicants |
| Busiest post | 172 applicants |
| Posts drawing 70 or more | 1 in 4 |
Why the spread is 20x from bottom to top
- Market size. A post in a metro simply has more cleaners in it than a post in a small town. You cannot change this, which is why the controllable factors below matter more.
- Advertised pay. Posts at or above the local going rate draw multiples of posts below it, and posts that hide pay underperform posts that state it. Applicants filter by the number before they read a word.
- The post itself. A specific post written for cleaners, hours, pay, what a workday looks like, outperforms a generic duties-and-requirements template on every platform.
- Where it runs. A post syndicated to the major boards plus a real careers page collects applicants a single-board post never sees. In our data, nearly all applicants arrive through the company careers page the boards point into.
Volume is not the goal. Hires are.
A 172-applicant post is not automatically a win. Cleaning applicants go stale within hours, so the real questions are how many applicants got a first contact within minutes, how many completed screening, and how many showed up to an interview. A 30-applicant post with instant follow-up routinely out-hires a 150-applicant post where the pile sits until Sunday night. This is why we treat speed to first contact as the number one metric of the funnel, ahead of raw applicant count.
If your post is drawing under 10 applicants a month
- Check the pay against three competing posts in your market today. If you are under the visible range, fix that first or nothing else matters.
- Put the pay in the post. Postings with a stated wage draw several times the applications of postings without one, per Indeed data reported by SHRM.
- Rewrite the post for cleaners, not for HR: lead with schedule, pay, and what the day actually looks like in the first three lines.
- Check where it actually runs. Posts stuck on one board miss most of the market. Syndicate plus a careers page that converts.
- Answer fast. Applicants who hear back in minutes finish screening. Applicants who hear back in days are already working somewhere else, and slow response quietly kills the next post's conversion too.
Methodology
Data: all applicants to cleaning-industry job posts on the Qualified Hires platform in the 90 days ending September 12, 2026. Counts exclude deleted or spam applications and exclude demo accounts. Posts measured are real, active roles at paying cleaning companies in US markets. Median and average are computed per post across the 16 posts active in the window. We will update this page as the sample grows.

Why listen to us
Qualified Hires is built and run by the owner of Cascade Home Cleaning, a residential cleaning company doing over $100K per month per location. Our own crews are hired through the platform. Across 272 applicants in the 30 days before this was written, the median time from application to first text message was 7.9 minutes, and 4 out of 5 applicants got a first touch within 10 minutes. Those numbers come straight from our production database, measured August 2026.
Frequently asked questions
How many applicants should a cleaning job post get?
On our platform, over the 90 days ending September 12, 2026, the median cleaning job post drew about 28 applicants and the average was about 54, with a range from 8 to 172. If your post draws fewer than 10 a month, the usual culprits are below-market pay, hidden pay, a generic post, or running on a single board.
How many applicants does it take to make one cleaning hire?
It depends far more on follow-up speed than raw volume. Cleaning applicants take the first decent offer that responds, so a modest applicant flow with instant screening and confirmed interviews beats a large pile handled slowly. Track applicants contacted within 10 minutes and interview show rate, and the hires follow.
Why is my cleaning job post getting no applicants?
Check four things in order: pay versus your market's visible range, whether the pay is stated in the post, whether the post is written for cleaners or copied from a template, and whether it is actually syndicated beyond one board. In our data the spread between weak and strong posts is more than 20x, and those four factors drive most of it.
